Mauricio Pochettino Faces Chelsea Goalkeeper Decision Ahead of Liverpool Showdown
30 January, 2024

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is confronted with a crucial decision regarding his goalkeeping options ahead of their upcoming clash with Liverpool, as goalkeeper Robert Sanchez inches closer to a return from injury.

Sanchez, who has been sidelined with a knee injury since last month's defeat to Everton, has resumed individual training at Chelsea's Cobham training ground. Although he is not expected to feature in the trip to Anfield, Sanchez aims to reclaim his starting position for Chelsea's League Cup final against Liverpool on February 25.

In Sanchez's absence, Pochettino has entrusted 24-year-old Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who has impressively conceded only four goals in the Premier League during Chelsea's recent resurgence, winning four of their last five league matches.

Furthermore, Chelsea could receive a boost with the potential return of Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto for the Liverpool clash. Pochettino expressed optimism about their availability, stating, "They [Nkunku and Gusto] could be available for Liverpool on Wednesday," while emphasizing the need to monitor their progress in the coming days.

As Pochettino weighs his options between the returning Sanchez and Petrovic, the Chelsea boss faces a pivotal decision in goal ahead of the highly anticipated showdown with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
