Manchester United Eye Gleison Bremer Signing, Consider Selling Casemiro to Fund Deal
31 January, 2024

Manchester United's recent FA Cup fourth-round victory over Newport County highlighted defensive vulnerabilities, with Raphael Varane's performance raising concerns amid speculation about his future at the club. Varane, linked with a potential exit after the decision not to extend his contract, has attracted interest from INEOS, who are eager to alleviate the wage bill.

To address defensive shortcomings and navigate financial fair play (FFP) constraints, Manchester United is considering offloading Brazilian midfielder Casemiro. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a minority stakeholder, is reportedly unsatisfied with the expenditures associated with Casemiro's wages and is keen on his departure to trim costs.

According to Football Insider, funds generated from Casemiro's potential sale would be earmarked for the pursuit of Juventus center-back Gleison Bremer. Manchester United has initiated discussions with Juventus regarding Bremer's availability, with the Serie A side setting an asking price of £59.7 million for the Brazilian.

Bremer has garnered acclaim in Serie A, featuring in consecutive Teams of the Season and earning the league's Best Defender award two seasons ago. Manchester United's interest in Bremer dates back to the previous transfer window, though a move failed to materialize due to the inability to offload Harry Maguire.

With defensive reinforcement a priority, Manchester United aims to secure Bremer's services in the upcoming transfer window. The potential acquisition of Bremer could signal Casemiro's departure, as United seeks to reallocate resources and bolster their defensive lineup for future campaigns.
