Liverpool's hopes of appointing Xabi Alonso as their next manager could be dashed if Bayer Leverkusen clinches the Bundesliga title.

According to sources close to Football Insider, Alonso, currently managing Leverkusen, might opt to extend his stay in Germany for another year if Leverkusen secures the league title. The team currently holds a five-point lead at the top of the table after a convincing win over Bayern Munich.

Alonso has previously expressed his interest in the Liverpool job, stating in 2018 (via the Echo), "Yes for sure, I have dreamt of that [the Liverpool job], but first I have to prove myself and prepare."

However, with Leverkusen's recent success and the potential lure of managerial opportunities at Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, Alonso may hesitate to leave a thriving project.

Despite Liverpool's prestigious reputation, there's a sense of urgency as the opportunity to appoint Alonso might not be available by the summer of 2025.
