30 January, 2024

Lille striker Jonathan David has addressed the ongoing speculation linking him with a potential move to Chelsea and Arsenal amid the January transfer window.

As the transfer deadline approaches, Premier League managers, including Mauricio Pochettino, have until Thursday to finalize any last-minute deals to bolster their squads. Despite Chelsea's lack of permanent additions thus far, reports have emerged suggesting their interest in David, alongside Napoli, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid. Arsenal has also been previously linked with the Canadian international.

In a recent interview with Telefoot, David acknowledged the flattering nature of being associated with top clubs like Chelsea. He expressed appreciation for the attention, stating, "When you’re young, these are the clubs you watch and think about. It’s flattering, I appreciate that."

Both Chelsea and Arsenal have been actively seeking striker reinforcements during the January window. While neither club has secured a new forward yet, several names have been linked as potential targets.

Since joining Lille from Gent in 2020, David has showcased his goal-scoring prowess, tallying 69 goals in 163 appearances. This season, he has contributed 11 goals in 27 matches across all competitions, playing a crucial role in Lille's ascent to fifth place in the Ligue 1 standings, trailing leaders Paris Saint-Germain by 12 points.

David's name joins Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the list of reported targets for Chelsea. Recent rumors have suggested that Osimhen has already made his decision regarding his next club, with Stamford Bridge purportedly set to be his destination in the summer.
